Republican U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina has been hospitalized with an infection but is expected to return to the campaign trail soon, her campaign said today.
The infection is related to the reconstructive surgery Fiorina completed in July as part of her breast cancer recovery. Fiorina, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2009, underwent chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation as part of her treatment. Her doctors declared her cancer free in October 2009.
"While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon," Fiorina Chief of Staff Deborah Bowker said in a statement.
Bowker said Fiorina remains cancer free and is receiving antibiotics to treat the infection
