Clinton 'dominates the 2016 presidential field,' new poll finds

By David Lightman - McClatchy Washington Bureau

October 02, 2013 07:43 AM

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is far in front of her potential 2016 presidential rivals, a new Quinnipiac University poll revealed Wednesday.

Clinton is backed by 61 percent of Democrats, with Vice President Joe Biden far behind at 11 percent. Seven percent cited Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, while New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo got 2 percent.

The Republican field is more scrambled. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has 17 percent, followed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 13 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, 12 percent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 11 percent and 10 percent each for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.

Clinton tops them all -- 49-36 over Christie, 53-36 over Paul and 54-31 over Cruz.

"Clinton remains above the fray and the queen of the 2016 mountain," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
