The two parties sparred Wednesday via memos as they tried to spin the results of Tuesday's elections. Democrat Terry McAuliffe beat Republican Ken Cuccinelli to win the Virginia governorship, while Republican Chris Christie easily topped Democrat Barbara Buono to win in New Jersey.
With all precincts reporting, McAuliffe had 48 percent of the vote to Cuccinell's 45.5 percent.
The Reupblican party stressed its long range plans. "We're organizing at the precinct level, and our staff will work alongside state parties and campaigns to support a team of thousands of precinct captains we've already recruited," said the Republican memo.
Democrats embraced the Republican ties to the tea party. Cuccinelli was apparently hurt by his close ties to tea party loyalists.
"t’s not necessarily that the Tea Party is more popular than the GOP, it’s that their identities have merged and voters by and large view them as one and the same," the Democrats said. .
