Cantor, House Republicans head to Switzerland for economic forum

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va.,  plans to lead a group of House of Representatives Republicans to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this week.

The forum, which attracts about 2,500 delegates, features discussions about world economic competitiveness, growth, and other ideas. The Republicans plan to attend Wednesday through Saturday.

Heading to the Swiss resort forum in Davos are House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas; House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and Reps. Kay Granger, R-Texas, Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., and Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla.

Cantor also hoped to discuss security issues, saying the forum is "an excellent opportunity to meet with world leaders to discuss shared national security challenges and partnerships."

Added McHenry, “The nature of today's global economy requires public and private sector leaders to regularly engage to improve our communities. The World Economic Forum provides a tremendous opportunity for these leaders to collaborate on policies and ideas that strengthen our economy and spur job growth. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of disruptive finance and how it can help achieve our mutual goals.”

Diaz-Balart had this outlook: “The World Economic Forum gives Congress a unique opportunity to participate in intimate discussions with heads of state and business leaders from all over the world. This symposium provides a forum to exchange ideas and gather insight to the many challenging economic, political, and security issues facing the U.S. and our global partners. I look forward to once again joining Majority Leader Cantor and the rest of the delegation on this trip.”
