Republicans Saturday used their weekly address to insist they too are adamant about equal pay for equal work, after a week where Senate Democrats bashed the GOP for its stance.
An effort to toughen equal pay laws was blocked in the Senate as Republicans opposed proceeding.
But, Republicans said, we're certainly not against equal pay. Saturday, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., made the case.
"There was plenty of talk in Washington this week about equal pay. it was just that: more talk," she said.
"As a woman who worked at McDonald’s to get through college…. as the mom of two young daughters … and as the elected representative of thousands of hardworking women, I have always supported equal pay for equal work.
"And if a woman is being paid less than a man because of gender discrimination, that is both wrong and against the law. "
She urged enforcement of the Equal Pay Act, and talked about Republican efforts to get more and better jobs for everyone, "young and old, white collar and blue collar, women and men," she said. "Because we are all in this together."
