GWB: Run, Jeb, Run

By Maria Recio - McClatchy Washington Bureau

May 01, 2014 05:20 PM

Former President George W. Bush is all for his younger brother Jeb running for president.

"I hope Jeb runs,” Bush told CNN’s Jake Tapper today. “I think he would be a great president. I have no clue what’s on his mind and we will talk when he’s ready. I noticed he’s moving around the country quite a bit."

Bush, who hosted wounded veterans for a tough mountain bike ride at his Crawford ranch Thursday, said that his brother was “checking his core” about whether he wanted to run, including the impact on his family. Jeb Bush is reportedly concerned about his family as he makes a decision. George W. Bush said that his brother knew “full well” how families were affected by campaigns.

Barbara Bush, the family matriarch said earlier this year that she would not want Jeb to run.

"Hey Jeb, if you need some advice, give me a call," George W. Bush said. The former president said he thought his brother would decide in about a year, and not before the 2014 elections. There is, however, a Bush on the ballot on November: Jeb Bush’s son George P. Bush of Fort Worth is running for Texas land commissioner.
