Georgia's Republican battle for the U.S. Senate seat nomination remains muddled, according to new polling.
The race features five candidates given a decent shot to win, and the contest is being closely watched as a test of anti-Washington sentiment as well as tea party clout.
Businessman David Perdue, who stresses his lack of Washington experience, leads with 22 percent in the Insider Advantage/Opinion Savvy poll, conducted April 27-29.
Right behind is former Secretary of State Karen Handel, at 20.8 percent, who also stresses her state and local experience.
The leading Washington candidate is third--Rep. Jack Kingston, at 17 percent. Then comes the tea party favorite, Rep. Paul Broun, at 14 percent, followed by conservative Rep. Phil Gingrey at 12 percent.
Eleven percent remain undecided. Georgia voters will go to the polls May 20. The seat is now held by Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., who is retiring.
