Brendan Buck, press secretary for House Speaker John Boehner, said Monday he’s leaving that job to become vice president of communications at America’s Health Insurance Plans.

Buck was well-known in the halls of the Capitol was part of Boehner’s quick response team. He would give instance reactions to a presidential initiative, for instance, or a position on legislation.

“I've had a chance to see and do some incredible things over the last eight and a half years,” Buck said in an e-mail Monday. He also served as press secretary for the 2012 Republican vice presidential campaign of Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis.

He left with praise for Boehner. “I can tell you there is no better man for the challenges we face right now than John Boehner,” he said.

Buck joins a powerful group representing health care providers. Boehner has been an advocate of repealing and replacing the 2010 health care law; AHIP has been far more sympathetic.

Buck made this pledge: “To all you reporters, you haven't gotten rid me yet - please get used to reaching out for all matters health care.”
