Obama’s golf game bumps couple’s wedding

By Anita Kumar - McClatchy Washington Bureau

December 29, 2014 10:23 PM

It’s no secret what President Barack Obama likes to do while on his annual vacation in Hawaii: Golf, golf and more golf.

So much so that anyone planning an event at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, a military course near Obama's rented vacation home in Kailua, is told that if the president is in town they just may have to change their plans.

That’s what happened on Saturday when a pair of Army captains were told they would have to move their wedding, scheduled for Sunday, because of Obama’s golf game, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the incident.

“It was emotional, especially for her—she’s the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned,” Jamie McCarthy, the groom’s sister, told Bloomberg.

The couple ended up marrying on another part of the course that actually offered better views than the original location near the16th hole.

And it doesn’t sound like there were any hard feelings.

Obama called the bride to apologize. “Made their day,” McCarthy quipped.
