More than 200,000 Americans have signed a petition calling on liberal Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for President in 2016.
The so-called “Run Warren Run” campaign to recruit Warren as a candidate for president is spearheaded by Democracy for America and MoveOn.org Political Action. Organizers said the number of signatures collected in the space of a few weeks indicate the groundswell of support Warren would inspire should she throw her hat into the ring to challenge the presumed Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton
“The over 200,000 Americans who've already joined the Run Warren Run campaign are a battle-tested, grassroots army it will take to make Senator Elizabeth Warren president should she decide to run,” said Charles Chamberlain, executive director of Democracy for America, in a statement.
Warren won’t be afraid to pursue a populist progressive agenda and for working families, Chamberlain said. “This is Senator Warren's moment and, together, this people-powered effort is working to build the infrastructure, energy and political momentum she'll need to seize it,” he said.
Warren has said she is not running for president.
