The Cruz campaign released an upbeat internal memorandum this afternoon that found a “strong surge” in support for the Texas senator since his presidential announcement last week.
In a memo to campaign manager Jeff Roe, research director Chris Wilson laid out how four recent polls reflected strengthened support for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, since his splashy entry as the first candidate in the race at Liberty University March 23.
In the memo written by Wilson the campaign gives this read on the polling numbers:
“Recent national polling for GOP primary voters shows a strong surge for Senator Cruz following his announcement,” says Wilson.
“The most recent Washington Post-ABC News National poll shows the strength of the Cruz surge as Senator Cruz has vaulted into second place with 13 percent of the vote. . . Nationally, Senator Cruz has gained 11 points in support among GOP primary voters garnering 16 percent of the vote according to a poll conducted March 26th-31st by Public Policy Polling.”
The memo cites data that has Cruz moving up in Nevada, where he’s gained 12 points and is now tied at 18 percent with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, according to a March 27 Gavis Marketing poll.
Cruz is also up in South Carolina, with 13 percent of the vote but trails Walker who is at 17 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush who is at 16 percent in a poll conducted March 26th-27th by Gravis Marketing.
