Clinton “glad” emails being released

By Anita Kumar - McClatchy Washington Bureau

May 22, 2015 02:16 PM

Hillary Clinton said Friday she was “glad” her emails were out and “I want people to be able to see all of them.”

“It's something that I have asked to be done for a long time as you know,” she said during a stop in Hampton, New Hampshire, where she’s campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The State Department Friday released 296 emails from her time as Secretary of State, the first set of emails to be released publicly.

“Those releases are beginning. I want people to be able to see all of them. It is the fact that we have released al of them that have any government relationship whatsoever. The State Department had the vast majority of those anyway because they went to what are called dot.gov accounts,” she said.

Clinton’s other comments:

“I've said from the very beginning I want them to release all of them as soon as possible and they are on the process of doing that. I understand that there is a certain protocol that has to be followed. They are following that.

“These that are being released today have been in the (congressional) committee jurisdiction. They were given to the committee some months ago and now finally those are getting released. So it's beginning. I would just like to see it expedited more than quickly.”

Clinton has turned over 30,490 emails to the State Department in response to a request from the agency after it was determined she used a personal account to conduct government business, but that she deleted more than 32,000 emails that she considered personal. The department plans to release the emails once they have reviewed them.
