Hillary Clinton heads to Iowa with a huge lead over potential 2016 rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a new CNN/ORC poll.
Clinton, the former Secretary of State, and former President Bill Clinton are to appear Sunday in Iowa at Sen. Tom Harkin’s Steak Fry, an annual Democratic gathering that attracts thousands of activists. It’s her first visit to the nation’s traditional first caucus state since a crushing loss in the 2008 presidential caucus.
The new survey, conducted Sept. 8-10 and released Friday, found 53 percent of registered Iowa Democrats said they’d back Hillary Clinton if the 2016 caucuses we re held today.
Far behind is Vice President Joe Biden, who’s scheduled to visit the state Wednesday, with 15 percent. Seven percent preferred Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, while 5 percent picked Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders, an independent. Sanders is scheduled to make three stops in Iowa Saturday and Sunday.
