Here comes John Kasich....candidate for president?
The Ohio governor is heading to two key primary states later this week, presumably to explore the possibility of running for the Republican presidential nomination.
First up is South Carolina, site of the South’s first primary. He’s scheduled first to visit Greenville and Spartanburg Friday and early Saturday.
Kasich, who as a congressman was House Budget Committee chairman, is to speak to the Upstate Chamber Coalition luncheon in Spartanburg, then participate in a roundtable discussion at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research and end the day with a barbecue hosted by Spartanburg Republicans.
Saturday morning, he is to appear at the Greenvile Republican county convention before heading to New Hampshire, site of the nation’s first presidential primary.
In New Hampshire, he has an afternoon speaking spot at the state party’s “First in the Nation” summit. He’s one of eight potential candidates on the Saturday afternoon agenda.
Kasich, who last year won a second term as Ohio governor, is touting his achievements as a budget-writer. He won the 2014 governor’s race by a nearly 2 to 1 margin, carrying all but two Ohio counties.
