Clinton: A woman should have her own bill | McClatchy Washington Bureau

Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that a woman’s face should be on an American bill, and that whoever the woman is she should not share the honor with a man.

“I want a woman on the bill,” Clinton said on CNN in her first national TV interview since announcing her second bid for president. “A woman should have her own bill.”

Clinton’s remarks came after the Treasury Department recently announced that it will a yet-to-be determined woman will appear on the $10 bill. But Alexander Hamilton who already appears on the bill will remain on some bills.

Clinton dismissed that as treating the woman as “second-class.”

In a 20-minute interview, Clinton talked about her Democratic rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders, some of her potential Republican opponents and immigration.

But she spent the most time talking about her decision to use her own personal email address and server when serving as secretary of state, a decision that has helped fuel criticism that she is not trustworthy.

Clinton defended the practice, saying it was permitted by law and regulation, and that she turned over potential work emails to the State Department after she left office. She blamed Republicans for the attacks.

“This has been a theme that has been used against me and my husband for many, many years,” she said. “And at the end of the day, I think voters sort it all out. I have great confidence. I trust the American voter. So I trust the American voter 100 percent because I think, you know, the American voter will weigh these kinds of accusations.”

Clinton said is “very disappointed” in Republican Donald Trump for his disparaging comments about immigrants and in the Republican Party for not condemning his remarks more quickly.
