Scott Walker’s political troubles keep growing.
The governor of Wisconsin, who led Iowa Republican presidential polls as recently as July, dropped out Sept. 21 as support plunged.
Wednesday there was more bad news from a new Marquette University Law School poll. His job approval rating in the state is down to 37 percent, while 59 percent disapprove.
Republicans would still strongly back a bid for a third term in 2018, but when asked if they’d back him if he had continued to seek the White House, just 28 percent of Republicans or those who lean Republican said they would. Fifty-five percent said they’d back someone else.
One-fourth of Republicans said they were pleased Walker made the effort and wished he had not dropped out.
The poll also found 40 percent said they were glad he ran but it was time to leave, while 30 percent said they wished he hadn’t run.
With Walker out, businessman Donald Trump leads the Republican pack in Wisconsin with 20 percent, followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson with 16 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., 14 percent and former business executive Carly Fiorina, 11 percent.
