Just before Hillary Clinton appears before the Benghazi committee, the super political action committee supporting her is airing its first TV ad of the race touting her tenure as secretary of state.
Priorities USA is running its cable TV in the first four early nominating states in New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina, as well as in Washington.
“Republicans in Congress are playing political games over Benghazi by wasting millions of tax dollars in an attempt to weaken Hillary Clinton politically but it’s not working,” said Justin Barasky, a spokesman for Priorities USA. “No matter how many partisan witch-hunts Republicans engage in, Hillary Clinton will always stand strong for us, just like she did as secretary of state.”
Clinton has been reaping the benefit of a spate of bad publicity for the committee that started when House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy suggested the panel had caused Clinton’s poll numbers to drop. A second Republican, Rep. Richard Hanna of New York, said Republicans are using the inquiry as a political campaign against Clinton, while a former committee investigator says he was fired in part because he didn’t want to focus on Clinton.
Clinton’s campaign and outside groups backing her candidacy have been fighting back with a flurry of press releases and fact sheets, praise for her tenure as secretary of state, and TV ads.
