Scott Walker’s back in the national political arena, but this time with advice, not requests for support.
Walker, the governor of Wisconsin, dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination in September. The front-runner in Iowa this summer, his poll numbers plunged and he saw no path to victory.
But with Republicans debating Tuesday in Milwaukee, Walker spoke and took questions Tuesday at a Wall Street Journal breakfast.
He would not endorse a presidential candidate at this point, saying he’s concentrating on helping to strengthen the party. Republican Chairman Reince Priebus is from Wisconsin.
Walker, who has been elected governor twice and survived a recall election, would not rule out being picked as vice president. “What the future holds remains to be seen,” he said.
He spoke about voter anger with Washington, saying that states should handle programs such as transportation, infrastructure and health care coverage, since state officials are closer to constituents.
Earlier this week, Walker reappeared on the campaign trail with Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor. He also met Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
