Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx endorsed Hillary Clinton at an event in Iowa Monday.
Foxx, a former mayor of Charlotte, is the fourth Obama Cabinet member to back the former secretary of state.
He said he supports her because she is the best-positioned to continue the successes of Obama and describes her as a “doer,” a tireless worker for families and a supporter of commonsense gun laws.
“It's not just something she read in a book,” he told an audience of about 300 people in Waterloo. “It's something she has done.”
Foxx specifically touted her proposal to spend $275 billion on fixing roads and bridges, public transit, freight rail, airports, broadband Internet and water systems.
“She has put plans in place that you can go see,” he said. “A candidate’s anger is not a plan.”
Three weeks before voting begins in the 2016 presidential race, Waterloo retiree Roger Murray said he has already made up his mind to back Clinton, though he has “nothing against” her chief rival Bernie Sanders. “She’s been there, done it,” he said. “She knows what she’s doing.”
Foxx joins three other Obama Cabinet members in endorsing her: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
Foxx has been serving as transportation secretary since 2013. He previously served as Charlotte’s mayor and on the Charlotte City Council .
