No Super Tuesday GOP debate for NBC | McClatchy Washington Bureau

The Republican Party Monday officially cut NBC out of its Super Tuesday presidential debate, joining forces with CNN instead.

“The Republican National Committee has decided to move forward without NBC’s participation in the February debate in Houston, Texas,” Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.

“The RNC has awarded the debate to CNN, who will broadcast it on Thursday, February 25 in Houston at a location to be decided. The RNC is ensuring the partnership with Telemundo and conservative partners National Review and Salem Communications will continue as planned.”

NBC, a sponsor of Sunday’s Democratic debate, was to have helped sponsor the Texas debate. Texas and 13 other states will vote between that day and March 1.

Priebus, as well as others, was upset at how CNBC handled an October GOP debate.

He told NBC Chairman Andrew Lack in a letter that CNBC had conducted the debate “in bad faith,” CNBC moderators, Priebus said, “engaged in a series of 'gotcha' questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates....” He said questions were “inaccurate or downright offensive.”
