Here’s another sign the Obama presidency is coming to an end.
The Democratic National Committee has lifted its ban on donations from political action committees and lobbyists, according to party officials.
Both limitations were put in place by Barack Obama, who was seeking to change the influence of money in Washington. But the DNC’s decision shows it’s moving on from its incumbent to its next nominee.
The news comes six months after it did the same for its convention fundraising and for the accounts it shares with presidential campaigns. It was first reported by The Washington Post.
Congress eliminated federal funding in 2013 for conventions. That funding would’ve amounted to $20 million on the Democratic side, according to party officials.
Obama will continue to decline to raise funds for the DNC from lobbyists or PACs for any of the committee’s activities or programs. Lobbyists and PACs still cannot attend events with Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, first lady Michelle Obama or Jill Biden.
The Republican National Committee, which does accept lobbyist and PAC money, outraised the DNC last year, according to the Federal Election Commission.
