Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is leaving the presumptive Republican nominee’s campaign, the New York Times reported Monday.
“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican Primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement.
“The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”
The statement did not elaborate on who would replace Lewandowski, who despite no prior national campaign experience piloted Trump’s campaign through a crowded primary to the expected nomination. Trump’s standing in national polls has plummeted in recent weeks as the field turns to a general election matchup with Hillary Clinton.
