- Donald Trump raised $26 million for his campaign in June, along with another $25 million in conjunction with the Republican party, a significant boost for a campaign that only recently stepped up fundraising efforts.
The combined figure is less than the $68 million that presumptive Democratic contender Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party collected in June, but it was the largest haul yet by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, who largely self-financed his primary campaign and has only begun raising money. In May, Trump raised just $3 million.
The campaign touted what it called “impressive totals” from June’s aggressive fundraising efforts, boosted by a flurry of fundraising emails. The campaign said 94 percent of more than 400,000 donors gave less than $200.
The first email appeal -- which included a $2 million match from Trump - exceeded the goal, collecting more than $3 million in contributions in one day, the campaign said. Trump himself contributed $3.8 million to the campaign in June, bringing his total contribution to $55 million.
The campaign, in conjunction with the RNC, also hosted 22 fundraising events with contributions exceeding $25 million.
“We just started our fundraising efforts in the last week of May and we are extremely pleased with the broad-based support in the last five weeks for the Trump Campaign and Trump Victory,” said Steven Mnuchin, Trump’s finance chairman.
The campaign did not disclose how much money it has left in the bank, but it has yet to run any ads. Trump has questioned whether he’ll need to raise the estimated $1 billion cited for a modern campaign: one study estimated that news media coverage of Trump, who is arguably more available to TV news media interviews than any major candidate in history, has been worth about $2 billion in equivalent advertising.
Trump, who for months had boasted about self-financing his primary campaign and accused his rivals of being beholden to special interests, reversed himself earlier this spring after securing delegates to claim the nomination.
Trump last night had promised an impressive take.
