Amid reports Thursday that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would select Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate, Twitter users began digging into the governor’s social media accounts.
One tweet quickly came to the fore, from Pence’s account in December 2015 shortly after the terrorist attack in San Bernardino. Following the shooting that left 14 people dead, Trump called for a nation-wide ban on Muslims entering the U.S.
Attacker Rizwan Farook was born in Chicago but of Pakistani descent, and his wife Tashfeen Malik was born in Pakistan but moved to the U.S. after their wedding.
Multiple news outlets were reporting Thursday that Pence would be Trump’s running mate, although the campaign has yet to make an official announcement.
Pence has also criticized Trump’s rhetoric about a judge of Mexican heritage in a lawsuit associated with Trump University. Trump alleged that the judge, Gonzalo Curiel, who is from Indiana, could not be impartial because he was Mexican and Trump has campaigned on a promise to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border. Pence called the comments “inappropriate.”
