Nevada Republican chair thinks his state’s capital is Las Vegas (it isn’t) | McClatchy Washington Bureau

It’s often said what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

The Nevada Republican chairman who cast his state’s votes at the party convention Tuesday got that part right. But he got a little confused about other particulars of his state, erroneously claiming Sin City as the capital when he cast his state’s votes for Donald Trump.

“Mr. Chairman, thank you,” said Michael J McDonald, chairman of the Nevada Republican party. “The great state of Nevada, where blue lives matter. We are battle born, brought in by the first Republican president in 1864,” he said. “We are very proud of our nation. From the great shores of Lake Tahoe to the most entertaining capital city Las Vegas, Nevada. What happens in Las Vegas will not stay in Las Vegas.”

In fact, Carson City is the capital of Nevada.

The convention formally nominated Trump as the Republican nominee for president Tuesday evening in Cleveland, and states took the opportunity when casting their votes to highlight their best attributes. Other delegates appear to have paid attention in geography class.

Sorry, Carson City. We’re betting that happens to you a lot.
