Gov. Mike Pence probably was expecting a softball question from 11-year-old Matthew. He didn’t get one.
Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate was hosting a town hall in Raleigh, North Carolina Thursday morning when he called on Matthew to ask a question.
“I noticed that you’ve been softening up some of Mr. Trump’s policies and words, is this going to be your role in the administration?” the boy asked.
It drew laughs from both the crowd and Pence himself, who didn’t confirm or deny the implication, but said Matthew would learn “when you’re governor of North Carolina.”
“I couldn’t be more proud to stand with Donald Trump, we are shoulder to shoulder in this campaign, my friend,” Pence said. “Sometimes things don’t come out like you mean. ... We have different styles, you might have noticed that. We’ve nominated someone larger than life, known for charisma, so they want me to kind of balance the ticket.”
