Hillary Clinton has retained her post-convention lead, according to a new Bloomberg Politics poll released Wednesday.
Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, is up 50-44 percent over Republican Donald Trump in the survey, which began a week after the Democratic convention ended. In a four way race that includes Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein, Clinton leads Trump 44-40. The survey was conducted August 5-8, before Tuesday’s uproar over Trump’s remarks about Clinton and guns.
The findings indicate that now that the momentum from either convention has faded, Clinton is in front though not as much as some polls last week found. She led by as much as 15 in last week’s McClatchy-Marist poll, while others had smaller leads.
The Bloomberg Poll found she’s built support for her candidacy, as 56 percent of her backers say their support is more for her than against Trump. But 56 percent of Trump supporters said they back him because they oppose Clinton.
Clinton does best among nonwhites, Northeast residents, voters under 35, unmarried voters, college educated voters and women.
Trump is strong with white men without a college degree, evangelicals, non-college educated voters, married people, Southern voters and men.
