Bernie Sanders delivered an unequivocal endorsement of Hillary Clinton on the Democratic National Convention stage Monday night, and implored his supporters not to stay home in November but to stand with her as well.
It was a political valentine from a rival that has energized the party’s progressive wing and helped shape the party’s platform.
“We need leadership in this country which will improve the lives of working families, the children, the elderly, the sick and the poor. We need leadership which brings our people together and makes us stronger – not leadership which insults Latinos, Muslims, women, African-Americans and veterans – and divides us up,” Sanders told a packed Democratic convention Monday night.

First lady Michelle Clinton framed the election in a most intimate way, with personal anecdotes about raising a family, and saying, “This election – every election – is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of our lives.” It was a powerful speech worthy of the moniker she adopted when she moved into the White House, “mom-in-chief.”
