GOP governors to celebrate, talk 2016 as they gather at posh resort

By David Lightman - McClatchy Washington Bureau

November 19, 2014 09:26 AM

The nation’s Republican governors gathered at a Florida resort Wednesday for talks, celebrations, and looking ahead to 2016 – because a lot of these governors have their eye on the White House.

The most anticipated event of the event at the posh Boca Raton Resort & Club comes later Wednesday.

A discussion of “The Road Ahead” features most of the 2016 hopefuls, including Govs. Mike Pence of Indiana, Rick Perry of Texas, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Scott Walker of Wisconsin and John Kasich of Ohio. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will get other time in the spotlight; he’s the outgoing Republican Governors Association chairman.

All this is being held at this plush resort, which promises “luxurious and sophisticated accommodations to match every lifestyle and personal preference,” including five separate boutique hotels.

For example, from the resort’s website: “Reminiscent of a grand Venetian palace, the Yacht Club at the Boca Raton Resort & Club, features 112 luxury guest rooms and seven suites, all of which offer stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean. These boutique-style accommodations offer a blend of intimate elegance and modern European sophistication.”
