Vice President Joe Biden is expected to miss Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to a joint session of Congress scheduled for next month.
Biden's office confirmed Friday that Biden will be traveling abroad March 3, but declined to say where he would be.
"We are not ready to announce details of his trip yet, and normally our office wouldn't announce this early, but the planning process has been underway for a while," according to his office. "We will announce additional information as soon as we are able."
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio invited Netanyahu without consulting the White House, which Obama officials say deviates from protocol.
Several Democratic lawmakers have already said they will not attend. But Republicans have backed Boehner's action, saying he has the right to invite any dignitary he wants to speak on Capitol Hill.
Boehner has defended his decision to invite the prime minister at a time when Congress is weighing sanctions against Iran in support of Israel. The White House prefers to hold off on sanctions while the administration is engaged in nuclear talks with Iran.
