Texas politicians with aspirations of dancing on a larger stage grabbed their heads in anguish. Not again!
Relax, folks. The 2009 version of "Won’t You Come Home, Kay Bailey?" has a different tune from the one that played in 2006.
Kay Bailey Hutchison's desire to be Texas governor is no secret. Last month, the senior U.S. senator established an exploratory committee and transferred millions from her federal campaign account to her state coffers.
Despite much speculation that she would sashay into the last race, she demurred. Republican Gov. Rick Perry won a third term in the 2006 election , but it wasn't because the majority of Texans wanted him to remain in office. More people voted for someone else, but with four candidates in the dance — Perry, Democrat Chris Bell and independents Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Kinky Friedman — Perry pulled 39 percent in an election decided by plurality vote.
