House Speaker Greg Stumbo's idea of letting pregnant women purloin parking spaces set aside for the disabled has so many problems, well, it's hard to know where to begin.
Stumbo and his colleagues must have awakened to the multiple downsides of a "stork parking" mandate because the bill has been returned to the transportation committee, where it should die a quiet death.
Pregnancy is not a disability, and Kentucky lawmakers should be encouraging one of the nation's most overweight and diseased populations to walk more, not less.
If businesses want to provide pregnant customers or parents of young kids with parking closer to the entrance as a courtesy, that's perfectly fine.
But lawmakers should do nothing that diminishes accessibility for the physically disabled.
It's hard to believe that this ill-conceived (no pun intended) proposal has wasted one minute of legislators' time. The stork parking bill is a turkey.
