The flurry of ethics complaints against former Gov. Sarah Palin — most of which were dismissed — prompted the Parnell administration to ask Attorney General Dan Sullivan for reform recommendations. Sullivan responded with a 19-page reply that includes both good suggestions and some that miss the mark.
We support the right of citizens to file official complaints of misconduct against elected or appointed state officials. It's a good way to exercise our constitutionally guaranteed right for a redress of grievances and keep our public servants honest.
But the complaint-a-week caseload that stacked up against Palin seemed out of hand — and raised questions about secrecy, liability, costs and accountability.
