The world's largest sporting event, soccer's World Cup, could be coming to Kansas City.
There's good reason to get behind the local effort: On Thursday, Kansas City was named one of 27 host city finalists.
Eighteen of those will host a total of 64 games.
The winning cities will be announced in December as the U.S. tries to land either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.
And by late 2010, the world's governing soccer body will announce where the cup will be going in both of those years. America is a good bet to nab one.
The 2006 competition was in Germany. Next summer, it's in South Africa. In 2014, Brazil.
The Kansas City bid to be a part of the U.S. plan centers on Arrowhead Stadium, which would require cutting away permanent seats near the corners to get the field width to about 75 yards and length to 114 yards.
