The current nationwide terrorism warnings serve as a good reminder: International terrorism hasn't gone away, and won't go away.
The threats coming out of Washington after several arrests last week were broad enough to point out that anything can be a terror target: Mass transit, stadiums, hotels, entertainment districts were all put on alert. Kansas City was included in these warnings.
Still, that should be the extent of a good reaction: Alert.
A little more than eight years after the horrific Sept. 11 attacks, one of the lasting lessons is that spotting potential attacks before they happen is a shared responsibility. In a nation this vast, with more than 305 million residents, citizens can’t expect officialdom to see everything.
