Commentary: 2010 resolutions for newsmakers

The Lexington Herald-Leader

January 05, 2010 01:24 PM

Our annual to-do list for the newsmaking who's-who list

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Enjoy what you're best at! How about one of those blockbuster speeches on health care? And have you really quit smoking? Oh, and 20 million people are looking for work.

VICE-PREZ JOE BIDEN: A new diet! (Maybe one that doesn't include your foot.)

EX-ALASKA GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN: Travel more! See some of the free world you so audaciously would presume to lead.

SEN. MITCH MCCONNELL: Work out! Start with working out solutions rather than obstruction strategies.

SEN. JIM BUNNING: Enjoy your retirement! Relax. You can still harass Ben Bernanke on Facebook.

CONGRESSMAN BEN CHANDLER: Spend more time with the kids! And cast more votes with their future in mind.

CONGRESSMAN HAL ROGERS: Take your district for a checkup! Your constituents are the nation's sickest and have the shortest lives.

GOV. STEVE BESHEAR: Take your mind off the budget shortfall with a weekend getaway! There are a number of casinos within driving distance.

LT. GOV. DAN MONGIARDO: Be a better communicator! And remember that everything you communicate is probably on tape.
